It all began with a huge sweet tooth. As early as high school, Debra Formaneck dreamed of owning her own chocolate store or dessert café where she could indulge her passion for great chocolate and love of cooking. That’s when she scribbled the name “Simply Scrumptious” onto a scrap of paper and tucked it away with other forgotten treasures, each to be rediscovered when the time was just right.

In the following years, Debra perfected a family recipe for almond toffee and began bestowing this delicious confection on family and friends during the holidays. While enjoying a successful career in commercial real estate, she still dreamed of a “sweeter” life in chocolate. The opportunity presented itself in the early 1990’s. With the Southern California real estate market in a deep decline, it seemed the time was right for a career change. In 1992, Debra officially launched Simply Scrumptious and started selling her Almond Toffee as corporate gifts. In 1994, she expanded the product line with the addition of Almond Bark and Peppermint Crunch and began wholesaling nationwide. Another milestone was met in 1998 when her husband, Greg, joined the company to oversee production.

Simply Scrumptious quickly established a reputation as a family-owned and operated manufacturer dedicated to producing high quality products in beautiful packaging. We still hand make our confections in small batches to ensure the consistently high quality that fine retailers have come to expect of us. All products are hand packaged with care using elegant ribbons, exquisite keepsake boxes, and other sophisticated Country French and retro inspired packaging designs.

Our products can be found in upscale boutiques, gift stores, gourmet markets and select department stores nationwide. We are proud to have created a custom boxed chocolate program for Nordstrom in 2004 encompassing 13 products. Other fine retailers we have partnered with across the country include Barney’s New York, Henri Bendel, Saks 5th Avenue, Dean & Deluca, Bristol Farms and the Walt Disney Company.
